From the Mouths of First Graders

OK, I've left you in suspense long enough. I thought you might enjoy some of the hilarious things my kids have said in the past few weeks. There have been some that have left me laughing out loud at them. Sometimes I can't help myself. The even funnier thing is that they aren't meaning to be funny. They just say it like they see it.

We are learning about habitats in Science and I asked the kids if they knew what a habitat was and one girl said "It is like when I tip in my chair. I have the habitat of tipping back in my chair." It took me a minute to figure out that she meant habit, not habitat.

In reading we were looking at the pictures in our story and making predictions on what was happening in the story. There was a picture of 2 kids sitting on barstools eating icecream. When I asked the kids what they thought was happening in the picture one boy said "It looks like they went to a bar and they are having a drink." I about died of laughter over that one. In fact, I'm laughing now typing it.

Yesterday was the 100th day of school so we spent the day doing things that related to the number 100. We did this writing activity about what you will look like and what you will be doing when you are 100 years old. One girl looked at me and said "Miss McKenzie, what are you going to be doing when you are 100. Obviously you'll get there before we do." Hahahaha!!

I know that there are many more, but those are the ones that come to mind at the moment.
